β€˜Latte Makeup’ is the Internet’s Latest Crazeβ€”Here’s How to Recreate It

Let me be the first to say that I’m all for ending the internet’s obsession with naming beauty and fashion trends after seemingly random foods (tomato girl? blueberry milk nails? SOS). However, if there’s one food-or-drink named trend that I can get behind, it’s latte makeup. Aside from being admittedly aptly named, the viral look is easy to recreate and is uber-flattering on all skin tones and eye colors.

The latte makeup trend is essentially exactly what it sounds like a sultry, bronzed makeup look created with different natural shades of brown. Warm coffee colors are highlighted through a creamy bronzer, a smudged brown eyeliner, and a juicy but neutral-toned lip. For those of you with perpetually rosy cheeks, latte makeup is a win because it eliminates bright pink or red blushes and instead focuses on more bronze, neutral tones. The term was coined on TikTok by beauty guru Rachel Rigler, but the look itself originated from Australian makeup artist Tanielle Jai (who, for those invested, has stated that she is totally behind the β€œlatte” name).

So, What Is Latte Makeup?

Say hello to β€œlatte makeup.” And just like the countless coffee orders that range from every single shade of espresso and beige β€” the trend, too, is all about using natural shades of browns and bronzes to create a truly sun-lit glam.

Advertisements

Danielle Estrada, a makeup artist and one of the many creators who has shared her spin on the glowing look, notes that the viral underpainting methodsuits this glam the most β€” which, ICYWW, is a face contouring technique made popular by Mary Phillips, the celeb-loved artist who frequently works with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber.

Why underpainting, you ask? Well, the method creates a softly contoured look underneath your favorite products. And to get the best results, you typically should be reaching for lightweight complexion products, like glowing skin tints with a more sheer, buildable finish.

As for the inspo pic that the latte glam is based on? Well, Australian-based Tanielle Jai is the makeup artist behind the look (which dates back to around 2018). In a recent Instagram post, she notes: β€œThey call this the β€œlatte makeup” but it’s just bronzed makeup using caramel tones.”

Of course, if you’re watching The Idol, you may see a similar sultry look on Lily-Rose Depp, throughout summer, this toasty, sun-kissed glam has been everywhere.

How to recreate the β€œlatte” makeup look

The bronzy, glowy base

The base of the latte makeup look includes a sheer-coverage foundation or skin tint, cream bronzer, concealer, and a powder bronzer to seal it all in. To achieve a natural, sun-kissed effect, Rigler recommends putting your foundation or skin tint everywhere except your nose to let your natural freckles come through; you can also use a freckle pen to create freckles after finishing the base. Add a healthy amount of cream bronzer or contour to your cheeks, a little bit of concealer wherever you need it, and blend well. Finish with a powder bronzer, and you have a latte makeup base.

The shimmery brown eye

After watching dozens of latte makeup tutorials, I can confidently say that there is no β€œwrong” way to achieve a latte eye. For an everyday recreation of the look, you can blend your powder bronzer into your crease, add a bit of smudged brown eyeliner to your lash line, and call it a day. If you want to make your latte makeup look to be a bit more glam, use a darker brown eyeshadow in your crease, add a smudged brown eyeliner to both your lash line and water line, and pop a bit of gold eyeshadow on your inner corner for a sexier iteration. Regardless of how you opt to create your latte eye look, minimal mascara is key for allowing the brown tones to shine.

The glossy-but-neutral lip

To finish your latte look, a neutral lip is the way to go. Grab your favorite nude, caramel-toned, or brown lip liner, and finish with a gloss that contributes to the melted effect of the makeup. In her original latte makeup tutorial, Rigler takes the excess bronzer and foundation left over on her beauty blender and pats it over her lips before applying liner for an even more neutral look.

How to recreate β€œlatte” makeup on different undertones

If your initial reaction to latte-inspired makeup looks is β€œNo way, that’s not for me,” think again. Many of the original pictures and videos of the viral trend are used on people with bronzed, olive complexions, but the look is just as flattering on fairer and deeper skin tones alike. (That’s right, fair-skinned galsβ€”you don’t need to self-tan to high heaven to achieve the look).

Jai has released several follow-up videos explaining how to recreate latte makeup on different undertones. People with cool undertones should lean into ashy, taupe-y browns, while those with warm undertones should seek out browns with a pinker undertone. Prioritizing shades of brown that will compliment your skin toneβ€”rather than wash it outβ€”is the key to making latte makeup work for you.

TikTok’s Lazy Girl Walking Workouts Are Almost *Too* Easy

Picture it: It’s a dark and stormy night (or just really late on a Monday). You’ve been working for hours at your desk and feel the urge to exercise, but you also can’t imagine putting on a sports bra or stepping outside for a run. According to TikTok, this is the perfect moment for a lazy girl walking workout, aka the simplest, coziest workout a person can do.

In a viral video that has over 1.3 million views, TikTokerΒ @sharonas.hillΒ can be seen casuallyΒ walking in placeΒ in her kitchen to the beat of β€œGimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” by ABBA. She isn’t dancing like she’s at the club on theΒ fictional Greek island of Kalokairi. She isn’tΒ servingΒ Mamma Mia!Β Instead, she’s vaguely marching in place with baggy sweatpants on. This is a lazy girl walking workout, and it is perfect.

Advertisements

To try this at-homeΒ walking workout, simply get up from your desk, couch, or bed, put on a peppy song β€” ’70s and ’80s tunes are always a good bet β€” and march in place to the beat. If you want to throw in the occasional sidestep or arm flourish, go for it. If not, marching in place will effectively help youΒ add more steps to your dayΒ β€” without all that much effort.

@sharonas.hill

Home walking workouts are SO convenient for many many reasons! Movement = movement, no matter how you get it! Im glad I’m able to provide a FUN way of movement for people who cant go outside! You can find all my fun, free, mostly beginner walk and dance workouts on my YT, sharonas hillπŸ₯° #bekind #walking #walkingworkout #sharonashill #mammamia #10000steps

Tiktoker @sharonas.hill says it doesn’t matter how you exercise, whether you go to the gym, ride a bike, or walk in place at home while wearing your comfiest β€˜fit. As she writes in her caption, β€œMovement = movement, no matter how you get it.”

These workouts get a definite stamp of approval from lazy girlies everywhere. Listen to two or three songs to tack a few thousand steps onto your day or march in place for an entire album to hit your 10,000-step goal. However you decide to do it, the benefits will add up quickly… all without the need to shimmy into a pair of leggings.

We Tried Rhode Skin β€” Here’s What We Really Think

In the ever-evolving world of skincare, Rhode by Hailey Bieber has emerged as a brand worth watching. Bieber’s impossibly dewy glow has had fans begging her to drop the skin routine β€” and she finally did, in the form of a line of carefully curated skincare essentials. Take a scroll through Hailey’s Instagram and you’ll find her products sprinkled throughout like Easter eggs, tempting you to know more. Seeing her juicy vacation lips and that sleek lip gloss she seems to take everywhere, we just have to know: are her products worth the hype? We decided to find out.

What you should know about Hailey Bieber’s Rhode products

Rhode’s product line spans six products, ranging from a moisturizing cream to a gel serum. But the star product is their peptide lip treatment, emblazoned with an Allure Best of Beauty award. Infused with high-performance ingredients, the products seem to focus on one goal β€” moisture. Ooey, gooey, dewy, delicious moisture to keep your skin happy and hydrated. The brand prides itself on its simplicity, which you can see from the packaging, and aims to be your go-to essential. And because they highlight authenticity as one of their brand values, we tried each product in the line to give our most authentic take on whether they live up to their hype.

Barrier Restore Cream, Rhode, $29.

I’ve heard great things about the Rhode Barrier Restore Cream (BRC) so I couldn’t wait to try this product out. I have sensitive and dry skin where I normally get oily and dry around my T-Zone, so I initially get nervous and need to be careful trying new products. I also only break out when it’s my time of the month (and right now it’s time), so I was hoping this would calm my skin down β€” and it did. I like the BRC. It’s not thick or oily, it’s fragrance-free and smooth on my skin. I applied it after doing my usual skincare routine and the BRC was what I needed to lock everything in place. My skin feels moisturized right after and it kind of helped bring the redness of my breakouts down.

Half a finger length, as it suggests on the packaging of the cream is all that’s needed to work its magic and make your skin feel restored. While I do enjoy this, I don’t love how it feels during the day under makeup. To me, it felt a tad bit heavy and moved a bit. I would rather use it at night as a moisturizer alone and I feel like my skin would appreciate it more.

Peptide Glazing Fluid, Rhode, $29.

One of the best tricks to always having that glowy β€œno makeup” look is to start with a skincare serum that can do just that. For that reason, I do love Rhode’s Peptide Glazing Fluid. It gives you that β€œlit from within” look that comes through your finished makeup look, or just a simple refreshed, and hydrated look for those no-makeup days (which is how I’ve been using it the most).

While I’ve truthfully used some serums that give me a more immediate glow, I feel like this product just has to be used for a longer period to gain that look consistently. I did appreciate how smoothly it goes on without a heavy feeling or a sticky residue that some serums leave behind. For now, with just a week’s worth of use, I can confidently say I will be adding it into my skincare routine to see just how much of that iconic *glazed donut* look it can give me.

Peptide Lip Treatment in Unscented, Rhode, $16.

I’ve been hearing all about Hailey Bieber’s Rhode skincare line for a while now and as a self-proclaimed lip gloss expert, I knew I had to get my hands on the Peptide Lip TreatmentAt first glance, I liked how the formula includes shea butter, babassu, and peptides to help create and maintain β€œpillowy-soft” lips. The application is easy to apply and practically mess-free. It leaves my lips feeling smooth, soft, and moisturized without leaving creases or gloss lines behind. The moisture lasted for about four hours before I felt like reapplying again.

Advertisements

I like this product and think it’s a great investment for someone who is looking to splurge on a high-quality lip treatment. It can be used on its own or on top of your favorite lip liner and lipstick. A bonus is that it works well on sensitive skin so you don’t have to worry about feeling irritated after a long wear. Also, a little goes a long way with this product and you can feel the positive difference on your lips instantly. I’m a fan of this β€˜new philosophy on skincare’ by Mrs. Bieber.

The balm is available in three flavors – watermelon slice, salted caramel, and an unscented version. So you can take your pick and have loads of fun. The product adds the extra oomph and gloss and all things good that give your lips the much-needed tender loving care.

FINAL VERDICT

While all of Rhode’s products are solid options worth trying if you’re looking for hydrating products or an entry into skin care, they’ll have to be combined with other products to target specific skin concerns that acne-prone or mature skin types might want to treat.

If someone is combating more severe acne, hyperpigmentation, or inflammation, they would need to utilize skin care with active ingredients that are tailored to treating such skin conditions.

PRIMP TIP: Of course, if you’re concerned about any of the ingredients, it’s best to consult your dermatologist.

Advertisements

As for user experience, all of the products are accessible and well made (and use recyclable postconsumer materials when possible), but I noticed that the Peptide Glazing Fluid bottle contains less product than you might think when looking at it (the cap is nearly the same volume as the bottle itself).

Have you tried Rhode Skin? And if so, would you be willing to try Rhode cleanser, toner, vitamin C, and eye cream if they extend their line?

FEELING ANXIOUS?Β This Hack Can Help You Calm Down Fast

For quickΒ anxietyΒ relief, look to … your freezer? Y’all know we love a good hack here at BeautyLeeBar, so when our FYP served us a video about β€œvagus nerve icing” to quell anxiety in record time, we had to look into it.

Advertisements

As it turns out, there’s something to it.

Advertisements

First, let’s turn to the longest cranial nerve in the bodyβ€”theΒ vagus nerve. It runs from the brain to the abdomen, carrying signals from the brain to organs and organs to the brain. It regulates important body functions like heart rate, respiratory rate, andΒ digestion, plus some reflexes like swallowing and vomiting.

Advertisements

The vagus nerve plays a crucial role in theΒ parasympathetic nervous systemΒ (PNS). A quick refresher on the nervous system: The PNS is responsible for β€œrest and digest,” and theΒ sympathetic nervous systemΒ (SNS) takes care of β€œfight or flight.” When activated, the vagus nerve tells the body to calm the eff down by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure. (Tbh, that’s the only time we’re okay with being told to calm down.)

StudiesΒ have suggested that stimulating the vagus nerve with a cold can help regulate the nervous system and lower heart rate.

Cooling hard-boiled eggs in a glass bowl with cold water and ice cubes.

Vagus nerve icing is popular on TikTok, thanks to a video byΒ Frankie Simmons, who relies on this hack when she can’t fall back asleep. β€œI swear, when I found this, an hour and a half of trying to calm myself down to get back to sleep when I woke up at 4 am turned into 15 minutes,” she says in the video.

It’s not just a TikTok thing, however. Cold temperature is also used as aΒ distress tolerance skillΒ inΒ dialectical behavior therapyΒ (DBT). Distress tolerance = being able to handle tough emotions without becoming overwhelmed. It’s a short-term coping strategy that can quickly reduce the intensity of emotions.

Ways to activate the vagus nerve with a cold:

  • Splashing cold water onto your face
  • Holding your breath and submerging your face in a bowl of cold water
  • Holding a soft ice pack over your eyes
  • Drinking ice-cold water
  • Taking a cold shower
