What is martini makeup?

It all started again at TikTok, where Brittney Foley, a New York makeup artist, did a tutorial that was inspired by the elegant classic drink – the martini. Now there are over 2.6 million videos of women trying to recreate this makeup look by doing it entirely in their style and customizing it to make it look incredible according to their facial features and skin tone.

Martini makeup or “Dirty Martini Makeup”, is all about channeling the sophistication and allure of a classic martini but with a hint of drama (it’s party season after all); anything else would just be a bit dry…. Key elements of this makeup trend include shimmery eyeshadows and eyeliners in shades of green and metallic, resulting in a super-hot yet classy look that is perfect for the holiday season.

Glowy base

A glowy foundation is the key to achieving this look. Start with a luminous base or primer. This makeup look is designed to capture and reflect light, giving the eyes a luminous and eye-catching look. Now, a new beauty trend is making waves – dolly makeup. This style shares similarities with Chinese douyin makeup and Japanese gyaru makeup but emphasizes wearability. Think of it as softer, more feminine makeup suitable for daytime. The key aspect of the dolly look is creating the illusion of larger eyes. Since this look focuses on enhancing your inner femininity, it makes sense that the eyes rely heavily on soft pink shades. Start by sweeping a light matte pink all over your eyelids as a base. Then, use a shimmery pink shade and focus on applying this in the middle of your lids for a nice pop. What’s unique to the dolly makeup trend is the use of eyeshadow to create faux-eye bags. In Korea, this technique is colloquially known as “aegyo-sal”, or baby eye fat, which is intended to create a youthful appearance. To do this, use a small and precise eyeshadow brush to sweep a brown shadow just slightly underneath the eyes. Be sure to blend this out. 

Now, grab a liquid eyeliner pencil (opt for one with a small, precise tip for optimal results) and draw a wing on the top of your eyelids. It’s important to use a brown pen versus a black one because the lighter shade will make for a much softer overall look. Your dolly makeup cannot be complete without long, fluttery eyelashes. Curl and apply mascara to your natural eyelashes on the top and bottom. Then, apply spikey, anime-inspired false eyelashes. You can also go back in with the previous eyeliner pen to create a few faux-bottom lashes, enhancing the doll-like effect further.
