I Wore a Different TikTok-Viral Blush Every Day for a Weekβ€”This Won Hands Down

I have a thing forΒ blush. Maybe it’s the storied history of it or maybe it’s the glamorous associations I have with it, but it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite makeup products to use. That, in itself, is wild, considering I used to avoid it altogether. It wasn’t until I entered my almost mid-20s that I realized the power and potential of blush. When placed correctly, it brightens up my complexion, whisks away dullness, and makes me look, well, alive.Β

Advertisements

I also recently joined Beauty TikTok, which means I’ve been spending a gross amount of time scrolling through videos, many of which happen to be the review and the get-ready-with-me type. What I’ve noticed is that the majority of TikTok-viral makeup products are blush. Whether cream, liquid, or oil (more on that last one in a minute), TikTokers can’t get enough of them. So as any good beauty editor would do, I decided to test them all, pitting the products against one another to find the best of the best. Ahead, see every blush I tested, and which one was the winner. (Hint: Even I was surprised at the result.)

Monday: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

I have a theory that it’s impossible to scroll through TikTok without seeing this blush somewhere along the way. It seems like every single beauty influencer swears by it, so needless to say, I had high expectations. From what I’d seen on TikTok, I expected the cream formula to have a bold color payoff, blend easily, and look natural on the skin.Β

Advertisements

My expectations were met. I used the bright-pink shade called Lucky, which would normally be outside of my comfort zone, but hey, go big or go home, right? I loved how the color complemented my skin.

As for the formula itself, it was certainly highly pigmented, so I used a light hand. I think I only applied two to three dots along each cheekbone before blending it out with my trusty Beautyblender ($20). The color stayed put all day long, and the radiant finish didn’t make me look too shiny. All in all, I only have good things to say about it.

An Affordable Alternative:Β PIXI BY PETRA On-the-Glow Blush in Ruby $18

Tuesday: Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Divine Powder Blush

Pat McGrath’s makeup brand is wildly popular, which only makes sense considering she’s probably the most recognizable makeup artist in the world. I’ve seen this blush all over social media, but IRL, I didn’t expect it to look as pretty as it does online. I was wrong. When I opened my compact, the rose design was perfect. It was almost too pretty to use (almost).

I used a heavy hand with this one because I wanted to see how the silky powder would hold up on my skin. Not only did the blush look incredibly natural (to me, it kind of looked like I just went for a jog or I’d been outside in the sun), but it also settled into my skin seamlessly. It didn’t look like I had blush on at all; it was more like the color was coming from my skin, which I loved.

Advertisements

That’s the reason I tend to prefer powder blushes over cream formulas. If they’re lightweight and silky, they apply like a dream and blend well. Plus, they don’t leave me looking too shiny throughout the day. As someone prone to oiliness in some areas, that’s important.

An Affordable Alternative:Β WET N’ WILD Color Icon Blush in Pink Me Pink $3

Wednesday: Youthforia BYO Blush Color Changing Blush Oil

This is the one I was most interested in using at the start of this weeklong experiment. It’s a color-changing oil formula that looks green in the tube, but when it’s applied to the skin, it changes to a flattering pink shade according to your specific pH.

Advertisements

It was certainly fun to use, and I liked the pink flush I got from it and it gave me that natural glow. If you are someone who tends to get oily throughout the day, adding an oil-based blush to the cheeks can not be the best choice. With that being said, if you have skin that’s on the drier side or you prefer a super-dewy finish, this is the blush for you.

An Affordable Alternative:Β MAKEUP REVOLUTION Superdewy Liquid Blush $7

Thursday: Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Bush

Another iconic blush, this is one I’ve been itching to use ever since it first went viral for being one of Kylie Jenner’s favorite products. The bubblegum-pink color might look a little shocking, but I think it looks kind of chic, too. Also, now that bright-pink blushes are trending on TikTok, I felt like there was no better time to try them out for myself.Β

Advertisements

I’ll cut right to the chase. I love this blush. I expected it to be brighter and even a little costumey, but I was wrong. It looks quite subtle if you use a light hand. My cheekbones looked bright and pronounced but not in an obvious way.

The powder is fine and silky and applies like a dream. It reminded me of the Pat McGrath blush because of how well it blended. As I said, I love this blush.

An Affordable Alternative:Β SEPHORA COLLECTION Sephora Colorful Face Powder $14

Friday: Saie Dew Blush

Since this is a highly pigmented cream blush, I expected it to be a lot like the Rare Beauty one. However, it was slightly different. The pigment wasn’t as in-your-face as the Rare Beauty one, and I felt like it blended out easier.Β

Advertisements

The day I wore this, I ended up meeting my friend Kathryn for coffee. She took one look at me and said, “Wait, why do you look so good?” The only different thing was this blush. I told her about it, and she instantly asked if she could try it. She went on to tell me that my skin looked bright, and my eyes looked more intense.Β

Advertisements

I loved this blush just as much as my friend did. It was just the perfect pop of color with the perfect finish. It’s creamy, the colors are on point, it blends well, and it provides a natural-looking, lit-from-within flush to my face

An Affordable Alternative:Β E.L.F Putty Blush in Caribbean $7

Saturday: Charlotte Tilbury Pinkgasm Beauty Highlighter WandΒ

Yes, this is technically a highlighter, but scroll through TikTok, and you’ll see and hear almost everyone use it and call it a blush. That’s because it’s a highly pigmented formula that leaves a soft petal-pink color on the skin. So in the spirit of testing out all TikTok-viral blushes, I felt compelled to include this one too.

Advertisements

Once I applied it, I could see how it’s a highlighter first and foremost. It has a soft, shimmer finish that looks flattering in the light. It also added a nice flush of petal pink to my cheekbones. However, I noticed it did make my skin look a little shiny by the afternoon. Still, it wasn’t anything a little translucent powder couldn’t fix.

An Affordable Alternative:Β MAKEUP REVOLUTION Bright Light Highlighter in Divine Dark Pink $10

The Winner

The winner, and my new favorite blush, is the YOUTHFORIA BLUSH OIL. I honestly don’t have a single bad thing to say about it. Its formulation reacts to the skin’s natural pH to give your cheeks a unique pop of color. While it is a blush, it’s technically formulated asΒ both a makeup and skincare product, which is a double win. Ever since my weeklong experiment, I’ve worn it almost every day, and the compliments keep rolling in.Β

Advertisements

Overall, Youthforia’s BYO Blush is worth the hype and is my new go-to blush. The consistency and formula have impressed me far more than any other powder and liquid blush has before β€” and that’s coming from a girl who loves to coat her cheeks in a liquid blush or two.

Lori Harvey Sparks Controversy with her Latest Beauty Secret Reveal.

TikTok loves a skincare hack, but apparently, Lori Harvey’s yogurt face mask took things too far. The model and entrepreneur took to the platform to share her tried-and-true tip, which involves smearing her face with Greek yogurt to quickly diminish the appearance of dark marks, only to be met with a slew of opinionated comments.

Advertisements

β€œI’m about to put you guys on game,” she says in the clip, which shows Harvey standing in her bathroom with the yogurt applied to her face. β€œSo, I got a facial the other day and she did extractions, and it left a couple of dark marks, and that’s a no-no. So, what I like to do when I want to get rid of them quickly…” β€” she then holds up a container of Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt β€” β€œ…game changer. Put this on after you wash your face, let it dry, and wash it off with cold water. It’s like magic erase marker.”

LORI HARVEY’S YOGURT FACIAL, EXPLAINED

While Harvey swears by this edible hack, TikTok users weren’t quite sure what to think. Some were downright skeptical (comments like β€œI’m not trying more DIYs man” and β€œfood is to eat, skin care is for skin care” are aplenty) while others claim they, too, have seen the benefits of yogurt for their skin (β€œMy favorite as well! The girls that get it, get it,” one commenter wrote), with many pointing out that it’s a common practice inΒ Middle Eastern cultures.Β

Advertisements

There are also a few people calling out the fact thatΒ lactic acidΒ (found in yogurt) products β€” of which there are many on the market β€” essentially have the same brightening effect.

Needless to say, the people had *thoughts*, prompting Harvey to return to TikTok a couple of days later with none other than celebrity estheticianΒ Joanna Vargas, who promptly backed up the star’s yogurt hack. β€œFirst of all, in other countries, using yogurt as a way of dis-inflaming the skin, hydrating the skin, exfoliating the skin β€” it’s a real thing, guys,” Vargas said. She also added that when she was in esthetician school β€œway back in the day”, students learned the yogurt hack as a way to calm down the skin when nothing else is working.Β

WHAT WE SAY

To set the record straight, BeautyLeeBar spoke with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Hadley King who explains that Topical yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, that provides gentle exfoliation by dissolving dead skin cells. β€œThis helps to create a healthy glow and prevent acne, and also diminish fine lines and decrease discolorations,” King explains. β€œThe probiotics in yogurt may help to bolster the microbiome of the skin, which we are learning plays a role in acne, rosacea, eczema, and other skin conditions, and the fat in full-fat yogurt has moisturizing properties. If you are going to try topical yogurt, I’d recommend full fat, plain, unflavored, and unsweetened. And yes, lots of similar benefits from moisturizers that contain alpha hydroxy acids and probiotics.”

@loriharvey

I just got here y’all not about to bully me off TikTok 🀣 relaxxx skincare experts. Obviously I could’ve showed y’all a lactic acid serum or promoted my Vitamin C Serum BUT I was trying to show you guys an easy and cheap DIY mask that has similar benefits πŸ˜‰ #skincare

Of course, it might not work for every skin type. However, it’s worth a try if you’re looking for a natural and inexpensive way to treat your skin concerns.

PRIMP TIP

Use this mask for 15-30 minutes and apply a generous amount if you do decide to give this DIY a chance.

PRIMP TIP

But it is typically best for those with acne-prone skin to avoid dairy in their diet and routine. So, what is the safest option for tackling dark marks and discoloration? It all comes back to having a solid skincare routine in place. Dark spots and discoloration are best treated with a balanced skincare routine of hydration, chemical exfoliation, and sun protection. Focusing on products that contain antioxidants and peptides is ideal.

In other words, trying out the yogurt skincare hack comes at your own risk. Play it safe and consult with your esthetician or dermatologist for a customized skincare routine.

SKINCARE BENEFITS OF YOGURT

Want to learn more about the benefits of yogurt for the skin? Read on as we explain more about this beauty hack, and how it can help your skin.

Advertisements

It Hydrates Skin

Yogurt is a rich source of fats and protein, which works excellently as a natural moisturizer. According to a 2011 study, yogurt may reduce water loss from the skin and seal in moisture.

It Brightens Skin

Did you know yogurt also boasts natural brightening effects? According to dermatologists, yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that provides gentle exfoliation to the skin, buffing away dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin.

It Treats Discoloration

Lori Harvey wasn’t wrong when she said yogurt cleared up her dark marks. Thanks to its exfoliating benefits, topical yogurt can treat dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It can also fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left over by pimples.

It Reduces Signs of Aging

Research shows that yogurt supports natural collagen and improves skin elasticity, helping to increase skin firmness while fading fine lines and wrinkles. It’s worth including in your daily skincare routine if you’re looking for a natural anti-aging formula that can be found in your fridge.

It Alleviates Acne and Other Skin Conditions

β€œThe probiotics in yogurt may help to bolster the microbiome of the skin, which we are learning plays a role in acne, rosacea, eczema, and other skin conditions, and the fat in full-fat yogurt has moisturizing properties,” explains New York-based board-certified dermatologist Dr. Hadley King.

If you’re seeking clear skin, turn to yogurt for its acne-fighting effects. Thanks to its helpful bacteria, yogurt can combat Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for those painful red breakouts.

It Provides UV Protection

Research from 2015 suggests that the probiotics in yogurt may be able to reduce the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays. These probiotics act as antioxidants, neutralizing the harmful effects of free radicals. This can also reduce sun-related skin issues like fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

Of course, you’ll still need to wear sunscreen daily to get full protection. But yogurt can help keep skin healthy, youthful, and glowing.

ALTERNATIVE FACE MASKS

Prefer to pick up face masks that are already ready to use instead of DIY-ing them? You’ll find probiotics like those found in yogurt in cleansers, lotions, and creams. Looking for something different? Try one of these top face masks.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Probiotic Superdose Face Mask

Γ‰minence Clear Skin Probiotic MoisturizerΒ

Shani Darden Skin CareΒ Lactic Acid Exfoliating Serum

This potent serum harnesses the power of lactic acid to gently exfoliate and address skin concerns like large pores, acne, and dark spots.Β

Achieve The β€œSunburnt Look” From TikTok With These Five Blushes

As June has arrived and beach days abound, TikTok’s new favorite trend conveys effortless romance perfect for the season. This season’s makeup is still natural (don’t want it melting off!) Γ  laΒ β€œclean girl makeup” but with a new twist: a rosy glow across your cheeks and nose.

Advertisements

This glow says you’ve spent all day in the sun. This glow says your only care in the world is how the waves are today or laying out in your backyard with a paperback greased from sunscreen. This glow says to put on the frothiest, lightest dress you own – ideally over a swimsuit – and end up at a barbecue under string lights. It’s the whole summer aesthetic.

The best part? To achieve this look, you don’t have to risk sun damage. (Be sure to cover up with ourΒ go-to sunscreensΒ before heading outdoors). Apply a healthy amount of blush to your face, extending past your cheeks to your nose and forehead, and voila!

Advertisements

With liquid, powder, and cream blushes ranging from matte to glossy β€” and with color-matching better than ever β€” these makeup options will give you your *perfect* sun-kissed pink no matter the skin tone.

‍The On-The-Go Blush.

Cheekslime by Freck Beauty, $22.

The Hook: Freck Beauty has a chokehold over its Gen Z audience, who first discovered the brand thanks to its faux-freckle pencil. Freck’s branding and packaging look good on any countertop, with products that are playful and effective.

The Look: Whether you shudder at the name or embrace its tongue-in-cheek irreverence, Cheekslime is a highly pigmented, universally complimentary wash of color you can use on both your lips and cheeks.

The Lowdown:Β Cheekslime utilizes liquid plant collagen in its formula, which allows it to β€œmelt” into your skin with an elegant, subdued effect. It’s a great multi-use item, flattering across features.

The Made-For-Everyone Blush.

GLASSY Blush from EspressOh, $26

The Hook: EspressOh’s named for its caffeinated makeup products and strong Italian roots. Just like espresso, the brand’s products are quick, powerful, and essential.

The Look:Β Matching blushes can be tough. The GLASSY blush removes the guesswork, so you don’t have to overthink what shade you’re putting on your skin. When you dab this on, it’ll be translucent. As you blend it, the reactant formula will mesh with your skin’s pH, informing its pigment. Although it looks different on each person, espressoH is constantly selling out because it’s guaranteed to align with your natural blush.

The Lowdown:Β Better yet, the dose contains caffeine, ensuring your skin looks energized and hydrated throughout the day (which gets to the heart of the summer glow we’re chasing with this look).

The Blush That Gives Back.

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush from Rare Beauty, $20.

The Hook: Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty line puts its money where its mouth is; through its Rare Impact Fund, it donates one percent of sales to mental health organizations, with a commitment of raising $100 million for the cause over the next ten years. This vegan, cruelty-free brand aims to be a welcoming space in an industry with often unattainable standards.

The Look:Β This intensely pigmented liquid blush is available in matte and dewy finishes, layering well over other makeup products. Rare Beauty offers a quick primp tip: if you apply it under your foundation, you’ll get an ultra-natural underlying glow.Β

The Lowdown:Β Since its launch in early 2021, Rare Beauty has consistently gone viral on TikTok with both entry-level makeup users and expert artists. It truly meets people where they are. Between the intense pigment, velvety texture, and feel-good goals, both this blush and this brand are worth supporting. (On that note, shop now: shades sell out fast.)

The Dewy Blush.

Dew Blush from Saie, $24.

The Hook: Saie emphasizes beauty as skincare first. Its no-fuss formula keeps it aligned with the minimalist makeup lover. Blush or a sunburn? The world will never know.

The Look: Some of us are admittedly not a fan of the dewy look, but Saie’s changed our mind. The glow from this water-based gel looks refreshed rather than sweaty, with a texture and subtle flush of color that makes you look like you’ve spent the afternoon playing in the ocean or perhaps on a hike. Mermaid vibes, anyone?

The Lowdown:Β Saie’s simple, chic branding is appealing and accessible. The blush itself is runny, like ink, but easy to use and build upon. While it adds a bit of shine to the skin, it never veers into greasy, which is the main concern with glossy finishes. Overall, it’s an impressive addition to any blush repertoire.

The Easiest Blush.

The Balmie Crayon from Axiology, $14

The Hook: This Latina-founded brand embraces multiuse and sustainability with the first vegan zero-waste crayon. These Balmies can be applied to cheeks, lips, and eyes. Some of us rarely switch up our makeup, so we appreciate the utility – and love that it’s plastic-free. The crayons themselves are tiny, but that’s because they’re not beefed up with extra packaging; you’re still getting an appropriate amount of product for the price.

The Look: The blush effect from this product is soft and lovely. CrΓ¨me blushes tend to have an organic-looking finish. As someone who often messes up highly pigmented blush, we appreciate that if we overdo it, the product will look like we fell asleep in a beach chair.

The Lowdown: The crΓ¨me Balmie blush is an excellent starter. If the sunburnt blush trend ends up not being for you, it’s an easy switch to use it instead as a lip color. It’s also long wearing and buildable, so you don’t have to think twice about getting it right.Β
