Winged eyeliner has always been about effect. A slight lift at the outer corner can change the entire expression of the face—sharper, softer, more awake, more alluring. It’s a look that moves effortlessly between eras, moods, and levels of drama, which is why it never truly disappears. Achieving a great wing, however, doesn’t have to involve overworking the line or correcting mistakes layer by layer. Below, we’re sharing two simple eyeliner hacks that make the shape cleaner and the process easier, no matter the formula or skill level. The result is a wing that looks smooth, balanced, and beautifully controlled—never overdone.

Pencil Eyeliner
This hack comes from creator @lenkalul and works beautifully with pencil formulas, where control and a velvety glide matter most. Start with a short stroke from the upper lash line, extending just beyond the outer corner and following the eye’s natural downward sweep. From the lower lash line, draw a second line upward until the two meet, forming a subtle frame for the wing. Then, trace the top edge from the upper lash line to the end of the lower stroke in one smooth, flowing motion. A gentle pass with a cotton swab refines the edges before filling in the shape, leaving the wing clean, balanced, and softly defined, as if it were made to catch the light.
Liquid Eyeliner
This next hack brings a touch of whimsy while keeping results effortlessly polished. Begin by tapping a small amount of translucent loose powder onto the back of your hand. Using the flat top of a skincare bottle—like an eye cream or squeeze moisturizer—dip into the powder, and gently press along the natural line of your lower lash line. Repeat from the upper lash line to map out the wing. With a liquid eyeliner pen, fill in the space between the stamped lines, letting the shape come together in one crisp, fluid motion. Once the liner has dried, sweep away any excess powder. The result is a wing that looks sharp, precise, and luminous—carefully sculpted yet weightless, as if it were effortlessly lifted from the lash line itself.
With these simple techniques, the wing becomes more than a line—it’s a subtle lift, a soft frame, and a quiet moment of allure that moves with every blink.
