THE SECRET TO ROSY SKIN IS IN YOUR MOM’S BEAUTY STASH — WE SWEAR!

The secret to rosy skin might just be in your mom’s beauty stash — and we’re not kidding one bit. With the launch of the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Makeup Line, mature ladies everywhere are able to shout from the rooftops about how much they love age-tailored products, but it’s important to note that not all of them apply to only an older demographic. One of our favorite any-age-appropriate products from the collection is the Age Perfect Radiant Satin Blush — a luminous formula made with camellia oil that helps give you a naturally radiant glow and healthy flush. What if we told you that this blush, combined with the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Rosy Tone Moisturizer can actually give you rosy skin in just two steps? It’s true! Here’s how to get the look.

After cleansing your face and applying your favorite serum, start by applying the Age Perfect Rosy Tone Moisturizer. This formula contains peony extracts and LHA that works to exfoliate the skin and replenish rosy undertones. You want to focus this moisturizer on areas that you feel like you need a boost, like around your cheeks, forehead or chin. Your skin will instantly feel renewed and revived — making it a great base for makeup.

Next, apply a foundation or CC cream of your choice (or opt to avoid this step altogether), and then go in with the Age Perfect Radiant Satin Blush. Available in six shades, you’ll have the choice as to what kind of rosy tone you’re going for, be it Peony Pivoine or Rosewood. Swirl this onto the cheeks with a round blush brush and you’ll notice that your skin will appear brighter, radiant and flushed. The combination of the rose under-toned moisturizer and blush will cancel out dull-looking skin in a flash and give you glowing skin for days (or at least until it’s time to reapply).

These $10 Face Scrubs Will Leave Your Skin SO Soft!

Exfoliation is easily one of the most important parts of your weekly skincare routine – it helps buff away dead skin to keep blackheads under control and keep your skin feeling smooth and soft. That being said, you need to be careful, because if done too often or too hard, you’ll risk over-exfoliating, which can lead to breakouts and general redness and sensitivity.

Our latest drugstore discovery is the L’oreal Smooth Sugars Scrubs, and we unexpectedly fell in love with them. The thing is, sugar scrubs can be notoriously harsh, which is why we often recommend them for body-only exfoliation. However, the new offering from L’oreal is exfoliating without being too harsh, and we were seriously impressed with the results. The three formulas that we tried combine three types of pure sugar – brown, blonde, and white – and each is concocted with cleverly-chosen ingredients to target different skin concerns.

For Oily Skin Prone to Blackheads: Purify & Unclog Kiwi Scrub, $10

With real kiwi seeds to smooth skin and reduce blackheads, the gel-like texture of this scrub doesn’t feel harsh as the sugars gently melt into the skin. The addition of peppermint essential oil, a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal, soothes the skin and helps control bacteria that can lead to breakouts, while lemongrass essential oil helps purify the skin.

The formula smells amazing and feels gentle on the skin – be sure to be light-handed with any exfoliators as the harder you scrub, the more you’re likely to damage your skin and the fragile skin barrier. We recommend using this a maximum of three times a week.

For Dry to Normal Skin: Nourish & Soften Cocoa Scrub, $10

This divine, chocolaty-scented scrub is ideal for those with dry patches or normal skin. Mixed with the trio of sugars is finely-crushed, antioxidant-rich cocoa, antibacterial and hydrating coconut oil, and nourishing cocoa butter. Post-scrub, your skin will feel moisturized and smooth as a baby’s bottom, without that tight or itchy feeling that some exfoliators can leave.

Add warm water to soften the sugar particles for a buttery texture that melts into the skin (don’t forget to do your lips as well), then admire how bright your skin looks after. Follow with a hydrating toner to remove any residue.

For Normal or Dull Skin: Smooth & Glow Grapeseed Scrub, $6.50

Packed with vitamin E to protect and promote even tone, grapeseed oil nourishes and soothes your skin while moisturizing monoi oil protects the skin. The addition of acai powder, and the fact it smells so good may make you want to eat it, but the vitamins and minerals are just as good topically for your skin as they are for your tummy.

Again, be gentle when you’re massaging this into your skin. As you add warm water, you’ll feel the sugars dissolve while the natural oils soften the skin and give a major post-exfoliating glow. We love that you can use this on your lips as well.

Primp Tip: We recommend using a gentle cleanser before using your preferred scrub and then following with a hydrating toner on a cotton pad. Continue with your essences, serums and moisturizers to ensure your skin stays hydrated, but avoid using any other exfoliating products, like toners that contain AHAs or retinol. Use these scrubs a maximum of three times a week and be prepared to see your skin glow.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SETTING POWDER AND SETTING SPRAY?

It seems like there’s a setting product for everything — whether it’s to quickly dry our nail polish, perfect our eyebrows or lock-in our makeup. And while the product options for setting our look are very straightforward when it comes to nails and brows, when we’re talking about the rest of our makeup it’s just not as easy. How do we choose between different setting powders and setting sprays, and is there even a difference between the two? I reached out to NYC-based makeup expert Gabriel Almodovar and beauty influencer Nikki Apostolou to find out.

“Setting Powder is designed to absorb the excess oil and moisture from your face and the products you’ve applied to your face. Because skin is a porous surface and produces oil, you want to set your face makeup with powder to help it last longer without melting away,” Almodovar explains.

He compares setting spray to hairspray — but for the face. “It’s designed to keep the product from being absorbed into your porous skin. Even the mattifying sprays don’t mattify your face the way a setting powder can.”

How to Use Setting Powder and Setting Spray

“A setting powder is applied during your routine and sets foundation, concealer and basically any liquid or creamy products you’ve applied — down to a smooth, matte, skin-like texture,” Almodovar says. “It often leaves the skin with an ‘airbrushed’ finish and can help to blend as well because it diffuses what’s under it. This is not to be confused with finishing powder, which is used after setting powder and adds even more of a blurred look to imperfections of the skin (lines under the eyes, pores, etc.) and control shine.”

Apostolou adds, “Setting spray is a fine mist which is applied after finishing the makeup routine. The setting spray can have different finishes such as matte or dewy, and it elongates the amount of time the makeup will last. It can also be used to amplify highlight or to apply a shadow damp — simply dust some product onto the brush and spritz the brush after. “

So Which One Should You Use?

“If you really want to set your makeup and extend the life of your makeup, I recommend using both a loose powder and a setting spray,” Almodovar explains. His favorite setting product is Maybelline New York Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder to smooth the skin’s surface and give a sheer hint of color. “I also really like Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing PowderNYX Professional Makeup Matte Finish Setting Spray and L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray.

This Is The Easiest Way To Get Glowing Skin

Who doesn’t want to get that glow? It’s basically the definition of having healthy skin. The thing is, it can be difficult to achieve with skincare alone, and it can be tricky to find the right balance between glowy, not shiny, with makeup. Highlighters are great, but if you want to look like you’ve just spent three weeks in the Maldives with an all-over-glow, you need to go further than the standard pressed highlighter on your cheekbones.

I recently came across the ultimate glow game-changer, and it’s really coming through for us. The L’Oréal  Shimmerista Highlighting Powder, $15, my new best friend. The formula comes in two blinding finishes: Moonlight and Sunlight. Moonlight is a stunning iridescent formula that’s great for fair to light complexions while Sunlight works beautifully for light to deep complexions.

But I’m not using this highlighter how the product page tells us to. Instead of using this like any other highlighter and applying it to the tops of our cheekbones and the high points of our face, I decided to do something different with this very finely milled shimmering powder!

By taking a tiny amount and combining it with a little loose setting powder in my setting powder lid, I’ve basically made the ultimate glow-giving setting powder. But seriously guys, this highlighting powder is so lit that a little goes a very long way, so the ratio should be two parts setting powder to one part Shimmerista highlighter! Dust your new formula across your face to set your foundation as you usually would, and be prepared for the glow-up! I’ve been doing this highlighter hack for weeks and have been getting compliments left, right and center!! It adds a subtle luminosity all-over, one that’s more popping than you’ll get with any ‘illuminating’ face powder but more subtle than using highlighter all over your face – so you won’t look shiny. It’s my new staple makeup must-have.

You don’t wear setting powder? Try mixing it in a tiny bit with your foundation and get instant glass-like skin. To up your glow game, you can add a little highlighter to your cheekbones – but honestly, just dip your brush into the excess powder that sits in the lid, because this really is so intense!

At $14.99, this is definitely on the more expensive side for a drugstore highlighter, but as it’s so powerful, you won’t be hitting pan on this for a very long time. Are you guys going to try this out? Let me know in the comments below.
