AN INTERVIEW WITH ANA DELAGILLO OF PRESSEDBBY

Hello beauties, it’s time to shed more light on women who are doing great things in the world. Today, we are super excited to announce our newest segment for BeautyLeeBar.com: a recurring interview series dubbed Ladies Who Inspire. Ever so often, we will spotlight one empowering beauty who is making an impact in the digital realm. These are ladies you’ll want to get to know and learn from. No matter the skin color or the job title, we are always delighted to partner up with women who inspire us daily.

Today, we introduce Ana Delagillo of PressedBby.com. Is the name sounding familiar? That is because last week we shared luxury pressed on nails that you can do at home for an affordable price which happened to be one of Ana Delagillo brands. Ana is a makeup artist and business owner who is inspiring her supporters through beauty and fitness.

Here’s what Ana had to say about her journey so far…

Let’s start from the beginning. How did you transition from being a Makeup Artist to being a fitness influencer then into running your own company?

This is a complex question, lol! So, makeup and fitness have always been huge for me. Makeup artistry helped me express my creativity and boost my self-confidence, which is something I had an extremely hard time with growing up due to bullying. Fitness, on the other hand, was my savior in terms of keeping me healthy. I was on a ton of medication for depression and PTSD in the past that caused me to gain an extreme amount of weight so working out also helped my self-confidence and self-esteem. As I grew on social media, I noticed that my passion wasn’t only makeup artistry or fitness, but helping young women feel empowered overall. Once I figured this out, I started posting my fitness journey on Instagram and noticed it was helping a lot of people start their journeys. I felt like I wasn’t doing much by just posting my progress on socials so I decided to start my own companies to further cater to my audience whether it’s through Pressed Bby or Peach Wear (which I’m still working on).

What has been your favorite makeup look that you have created whether it was on yourself or a client?

My favorite makeup looks that I have created has to be on my clients. All the looks I do for my clients have a place in my heart because they always leave my chair feeling confident, empowered, and like they can conquer anything! I had a wedding client a couple of years back and it was the most special thing ever because she cried and told me how beautiful she felt. That’s honestly the most gratifying thing about being a makeup artist.

How would you describe your style in terms of being a beauty influencer?

My style, I would say, is very raw. I don’t try to fit in! I’m just my authentic self and I hope to inspire others to be their authentic selves no matter what anyone might say or think!

Can you share some tips for people looking to enter the social media world?

The biggest thing is not to compare yourself to others! Not going to lie, I struggled with this when I started my influencing journey. I get it, it’s hard not to compare yourself to others with more likes, and followers, etc. but that’s not what matters! What matters is that you’re putting out content that you genuinely love, no matter the analytics! Also, don’t feed into the negativity! People will leave rude comments, it’s life, but remember it’s always a reflection of them and NOT you.

What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs who want to follow their dreams and start their own company?

Let go of the fear! Fear is the biggest thing holding many, many people back. Life is about risks and taking that leap of faith. Yes, you’ll make mistakes, especially as a young entrepreneur, but that’s how you learn! That’s how you grow, so as hard it may be, take those mistakes as a blessing! If you didn’t make mistakes, you would never know what to improve on.

Ana Delgadillo

We are huge fans of your Instagram. Do you have any tips or tricks for achieving an aesthetically awesome Instagram page?

Thank you!! I love planning out my posts, so using Photoshop (or anything similar) to plan my posts ahead of time and making sure they all look cohesive is extremely helpful in achieving an aesthetically pleasing feed!

What is your favorite part about owning your own company?

I think it has to be how much you learn! Nobody in my family has ever leaped starting their own business so I love expanding my knowledge and knowing that I CAN do it. Aside from that, it’s super gratifying to see your business start growing and knowing YOU DID THAT!

What is the biggest lesson you have learned since launching your own company?

Doing your research beforehand! There’s so much that goes into creating your own company, so having a list of all the things you need to do before actually starting your business is KEY! For example, the why behind your company, who is your target audience, what are your differentiating factors, etc.

What has been the best moment of your career so far?

I would say the fact that I can just see myself growing into the person I’m meant to be! All the experiences I’ve had thus far, both positive and negative, are all equally as important to me. They all teach you lessons!

What’s your favorite part about doing collaborations?

My favorite part about doing collaborations is working with others! Whether I’m doing collaborations with a brand or another influencer, you always learn so much!

Ana Delgadillo

Words to live by?

Dreams don’t work unless you do!

What is next for Pressed Bby and Peach Wear?

I’m currently rebranding Pressed Bby and adding some new exciting things to the website! As for Peach Wear, I’m hoping to launch by the end of this year or the beginning of next year! When that’s complete, I plan on doing events and workshops to meet new people and continue my mission to empower young women!

Is there any woman who inspires you? Why? (In life, fashion, beauty, etc)

Oh my goodness, there are so many! First of all, my mother. She came to this country with nothing but the clothes on her back and me as a baby and managed to make sure my sister and I never needed anything. She taught me to always strive for better and that everything is possible no matter what happens along the way. The second person, I would say, is Nastassia Ponomarenko. Watching her motivational videos and seeing how she was able to create a successful company at the age of 16 was the push I needed to throw my fear out of the window and start my own! I know the next person isn’t a woman BUT he inspires me so much, Gary Vaynerchuck. I listen to his podcasts every morning and the insight and knowledge he gives out to people, willingly, honestly changes your perspective on so many things!

Do you have any upcoming events that we should watch out for?

No events at the moment, but hopefully in the next couple of years I can launch a secret project I’m working on to help young women all around the world who have gone through similar hardships as I have, and set up workshops so we can all come together and help them get through it ️🤍 I can’t give more details on this special project, but it’s something to watch out for!

Define beauty in your own words?

Beauty, to me, comes from the heart & not appearance. I know it’s super cliché to say, but I genuinely believe that a person’s heart is much more valuable than their looks! It’s the way you interact with others, how you see the world and how you treat yourself.

Advertisements

What have you learned from being around other beauty creators?

I learned that we all have a unique voice! I struggled to find my “differentiating” factor in the industry but with a little time and a little analyzing, I realized that we’re all unique. We all have our own experiences that make us stand out from the rest. If you’re struggling with this, just know that your experiences are unique to you and it shaped you to the person you are today. I’m kind of going on a tangent but this also helped stop comparing myself to others because we’re all supposed to be unique ️🤍

Do you have any beauty and skincare routine that you follow religiously? If so can you tell the viewers some tips on how to get beautify like you!

SPF! I feel like sunscreen is super overlooked and many people believe that you don’t need it if you don’t go out or if the sun isn’t out, but girl! UVA & UVB rays are everywhere and they do not discriminate lol sun or not. Wear your sunscreen and drinks LOTS of water! OH, and don’t sleep with your makeup on lol!

Before closing out, what would you like for BLB readers and your supporters to know about you?

My supporters already know this lol, since I’m always saying this! There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, whether you’re having a bad day, a bad week, or a bad month; things will ALWAYS get better. You’re stronger and smarter than you know!

Keep up with ANA DELGADILLO amazing work on her YouTube and on Instagram here!

9 Iconic ‘Clueless’ Beauty Moments To Reminisce Over — AND Maybe Copy, Too

The ’90s are famous for churning out hit teen movies one after another. If you weren’t lusting over Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You, you were probably taking fashion notes from one of the era’s biggest blockbusters: Clueless. You surely know (and might have even recreated) the matching plaid skirt-suit sets main character’s Cher and Dionne wore and even Cher’s red slip-dress, but now, in honor of the movie’s 25th anniversary, it’s time to appreciate the most iconic beauty moments from Clueless, as well.

Advertisements

Yes, you read that right: The 1995 film is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. Though it wasn’t anticipated to reach what is now its classic status, the teen movie that follows Beverly Hills’ best friends as they play matchmaker (which is loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma) grossed more than $56.6 million at the box office. And along with producing iconic lines like “as if” and introducing the world to the dreamy Paul Rudd, the movie is a certified style look book — from clothing to the signature ’90s beauty.

Of course, the stars of the movie, Cher Horowitz (played by Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne Davenport (played by Stacey Dash), have the most iconic beauty moments with things like monochrome pink makeup and ribbon braids, respectively. Yet, supporting characters like Amber Marines (played by Elisa Donovan) also have some drool-worthy looks — like amazing pigtails.

Take a trip down memory lane and keep reading for nine of the best beauty moments from Clueless (and maybe garner some inspiration, too).

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Cher’s Brown Lipstick

When Cher is in the beginning stages of luring in her first love interest Christian Stovitz, she gives some pointers on how to get men’s affection, one being “Anything you can do to draw attention to your mouth is good.” And in this scene, her brown lipstick is working, if not to make Stovitz fall for her then to have a seriously flawless ’90s beauty moment.

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Dionne’s Flower Hat

It could be argued that Cher’s best friend, Dionne, has the most covetable — and funky — style from the movie. Case in point: The tall white, black-brimmed, black-bowed, pink-flower-adorned hat she wears in her first scene appearance. It’s large and in charge, and says Dionne is not here to play with her style. And though she wears many a hat throughout the movie, this one is quite the showstopper.

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Chunky Headbands

Blair Waldorf who? More than 10 years before Gossip Girl even crossed people’s radars, and consequently, character Blair Waldorf’s signature hair accessories, the girls of Clueless were wearing chunky headbands. While Dionne has a sporty feel in crisp white color, Cher’s could be plucked out of today’s runways with its velvet material.

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Amber’s Pigtails

Amber Mariens’ character may be on the snobbier side, but she has incredible beauty moments — one of which being this pigtail situation. The double ponytails are placed high on the crown of her head with cascading curls falling to her chest; they’re cute and playful without being too infantile. And it would be remiss to not mention her bangs, which find themselves closer to baby-bang length throughout the rest of the movie (clearly ahead of her time).

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Cher’s Monochrome Pink Makeup

Unlike other movies such as Moulin Rouge, makeup is not the beauty hero of Clueless. However, it had a serious moment when Cher donned an entirely monochrome pink face (and outfit and earrings and hair clip) when trying to win over Stovitz. Though her punchy pink lip, flushed cheeks, and a few swipes of the hue for eyeshadow didn’t get her the boy, it was still an iconic look (and one that continues to trend in 2020).

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: The Girls’ Wedding Looks

There’s no better way to culminate a movie than with incredible hair. Tai Fraiser’s (played by Brittany Murphy) is simple, not straying from her normal curls seen in the movie, whereas Cher and Dionne go full ’90s for the wedding scene. Cher’s blonde tresses are ribbon curled with the front clipped up while Dionne has hot pink and baby pink puffs scattered throughout her strands.

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Everyone’s Barrettes

In recent years barrettes have made a serious comeback, but they were once a tried-and-true hair accessory of the ’90s. This scene, in particular, had about six barrettes make an appearance in under 20 seconds. Most notable are Dionne’s kitschy, pink sunflower versions followed by the two blue ones situated on either side of Tai’s head (and even most of the background characters are wearing some type of barrette in this clip).

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Cher’s Voluminous Hair

Let’s be honest: The star of Clueless was Cher’s hair. It was always perfectly coiffed with a decent, but the not overwhelming, amount of volume — aka ideal. The blonde locks were frequently left down and straight in the movie with small blips of updos and accessories; however, as little as Cher’s hair seemed to take on new iterations, hairstylist for the movie Nina Paskowitz told Mashable Cher’s hair was different for every outfit change — sometimes as small as shifting the part.

Most Iconic Beauty Moment From Clueless: Dionne’s Ribbon Braids

Once again, Dionne takes the crown for the best hair accessories. This time around she intertwined pink and green ribbon into her braids that also happened to perfectly match her top. It was simple but added just the right amount of flair to make a Dionne look complete. And with hair scarves on the rise in 2020, maybe ribbon will get a Dionne-approved resurgence too.

Tried Glossier’s Best Sellers. Here’s What I Think.

Did they defy my expectations? Let’s find out.

After months of eyeing Glossier’s line-up of products, I decided to do a haul in hopes that their best sellers were as good as they appeared to be. Known for their minimalist approach to beauty, makeup, and skincare, the Emily Weiss-founded cosmetics company has long since been a favorite of minimalists and maximalists alike. For beauty lovers who gravitate towards “no-makeup” makeup looks, Glossier holds the keys to the kingdom, while makeup afficianados who are more about that beat-face life have their favorite tried and true beauty finds from the brand (Boy Brow, we’re looking at you).

As far as my own personal adventure into Glossier Land, I decided to add their cleanser, serums, and moisturizers as well as a few of their top-selling makeup offerings. Keep reading for a quick rundown of my buys and why I cannot get enough of the magic Glossier is selling.

Skincare First

As I have matured, skincare has become top priority. Products that make me glow like I am well-loved and stress-free will always be a fave of mine. Glossier gets this right with a full line of products that take my glow to next-level heights. I use a three-part system that leaves me so radiant, makeup isn’t a necessity.

Milky Jelly Cleanser, $9+

What it is: A gentle-yet-effective creamy gel face wash for all skin types

For starters, I wash my face with Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser. The subtle rosy scent of this cleanser immediately makes me smile but, more than that, the creamy texture infuses my skin with moisture from the onset. With five skin conditioners included, it’s no wonder this product is so soothing and nourishing. It is one of few cleansers that doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry after it is rinsed away. “Rejuvenating” best describes this one.

After rinsing away the Milk Jelly Cleanser, I move right along to the Super Duo. It consists of two top-rated serums infused with vitamins. This combo works together to hydrate and brighten skin. Super Bounce is just what the doctor ordered for soothing moisture that hydrates with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin b5. Although the name speaks for itself, I can confirm that Super Glow indeed brightens skin with its powerful combination of Vitamin C and magnesium.

I follow up with a moisturizer and then jump into Futuredew.

If I had to choose only one Glossier product to live by, Futuredew would be it. You know that dewy fresh face look you get directly after using a good moisturizer or finishing up a facial? Futuredew creates this look with all-day staying power, and I cannot get enough of it. This serum is made of oils and light-reflecting minerals that will leave you looking glorious.

The Super Pack, $65

What it is: Three daily, vitamin-packed serums that deliver hydration, more even tone, and clarity

I could stop here and be over the moon, but when I’m feeling really ambitious, I use the following makeup products for a “no-makeup” look:

Makeup Second

Glossier describes its makeup line as “Products that give you options but never cover you up, turn you into someone else, or over-complicate your routine.” And I cannot find a single lie. On days where I want to look fresh and lightly done, I go with Glossier all the way.

Starting with Cloud Paint cheek color, I set the tone. It’s literally a gel-cream blush you can’t mess up. This buildable color blends naturally and is easy to use. No brushes required. Simply dab a bit on your cheeks and use your finger to tap it into your skin. The end results? A slightly flushed look that makes it look like you’re truly blushing a bit from the inside out. It’s that simple.

Cloud Paint, $18

What it is: A seamless, buildable gel-cream blush that’s fun and easy to wear

Next, I like to follow up with Haloscope in “Moonshine”. This crystal-infused highlighter enhances the dewy effect with a barely-there look that is irresistible. It’s my second fave product. The moment I FaceTimed my person and he said, “You look so beautiful. Don’t put on makeup today,” I KNEW Haloscope would forever hold a special place in my heart.

Haloscope, $22

What it is: A crystal-infused highlighter with skin conditioning benefits

I add a hint of color to my lips by using Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick for a casual “I didn’t try” look. Although a matte finish, it’s packed with moisture and is the cherry on top of my “Yassssss, fresh face” look.

Glossier Pulled Up

Before going all-in on the dopeness of Glossier, I was sure to visit @pullupforchange to see Glossier’s diversity numbers. I was pleased to see the company’s commitment to diversity as well as its recent release of a new grant for black-owned beauty businesses. I am happy to report that we can shop Glossier guilt-free. That’s good news we can use.

Pros Agree That Jade Roller Benefits Go Far Beyond De-Puffing Your Face

These days, it’s near impossible to scroll through your social media feed without coming across a beautifully-styled photo of a jade roller. But according to skin-care pros, jade roller benefits extend far beyond solely making for a pretty picture.

Jade face rollers for beauty facial massage therapy. Flat lay on marble background

Jade rolling has long been a practice in traditional Chinese medicine. The stone is believed to have healing properties and be a sign of power and immortality. Over the last few years, the tool has made its way into beauty stores (and onto Instagram feeds) in the Western world, thanks in large part to its de-puffing abilities. ” In the simplest terms, a jade roller is a facial massage tool,” says Jessica Briggs, the VP of marketing for Ecotools. “What makes it special is that it’s made from natural jade stone which has both spiritual and physical benefits, and is known for its purifying and detoxifying qualities.” And pros say that jade roller benefits include things like lymphatic drainage and improved circulation. Here’s what you need to know.

Jade roller benefits

1. Detoxifies and reduces puffiness

“Lymphatic drainage” is one of the buzziest wellness terms of 2020 (we called it in our Trends!), and jade rolling is one of the easiest ways to do it at home. Using the tool to massage your face can help reduce some of the fluid buildup, doing away with puffiness. Roll the massager toward your lymph nodes—which are located in your neck, slightly behind your ears—to help stimulate lymph movement.

2. Brightens and firms skin

Jade rollers massage the superficial layer of the skin, and if you pop them in the freezer to cool them down they can “calm irritation, tighten pores, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” says Miami-based board-certified dermatologist Stacy Chimento, MD. There are some claims that jade rollers can help your skin absorb topical ingredients more effectively, but there isn’t enough research to fully support this theory.

3. Relaxes facial tension

If you’re a big-time jaw clencher, treating yourself to a DIY jade roller massage can help do away with some of the tension the habit leaves behind. “By putting gentle pressure on your face and neck it helps reduce tension,” says Briggs. Use the smaller end of the roller to gently massage along your jaw line, and you’ll feel an immediate release of whatever stress you’re holding in the area.

4. De-puffs your under eyes

After a long night of crying, drinking, or eating salt, if you ever wind up with your eyes puffy, a simple jade-rolling routine can help. Massaging the area with the smaller end of the tool can help even out some of the fluid, and it will work double-duty if it’s fresh out of the freezer, since cold temperatures help to constrict blood vessels, which helps to prevent the flow of fluid into the tissues.

How to use a jade roller

In order to reap the most of your jade roller benefits, you’ll want to be sure you’re using it the right way. “In terms of technique, make sure you aren’t applying undue pressure and pulling the skin, this goes double for downward strokes,” says Dr. Chimento. “You can start with the nose and eyes and gently and thoroughly cover the face with the massage tool emphasizing the forehead and cheekbones.” Briggs adds that you can use the tool with or without skin care, focusing on an outward, rolling motion on your face and neck, which helps push tension and swelling away from the center of your face and encourage circulation.

Most jade rollers come with a larger end and a smaller one, each of which serve different purposes. The larger one is great for use on your cheeks, forehead, and jawline, and the smaller one can be used under your eyes and around your nose. Some also have a textured side as well as a smooth side, which Dr. Chimento is a fan of using for light physical exfoliation (just be sure to limit yourself to a few times a week with it so you don’t over exfoliate).

A few other pro tips, depending on what you’re looking for? “If you want to really gain the maximum benefit out of the jade roller, I suggest placing your tool in the freezer or fridge overnight and massaging your face in the morning,” says Dr. Chimento. “The combination of massage and cool application will help not only break up fluids from overnight, but also tighten your pores, and calm the skin from minor irritations or puffiness.” Briggs also suggests warming the tool with water, which will help open your pores for improved skin-care absorption.

And one more thing? “Always make sure to clean your tools before the next use,” says Briggs. The best way to do it is by washing with a gentle soap and patting dry.
