We can all agree that TikTok is the best way to stay up to date on the latest trends. This holds especially true in the beauty world as there’s always a new makeup look that has us in a chokehold. Not only is TikTok the marketplace for styles like strawberry makeup and latte makeup, but it’s also a great place to refine your skills. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beauty novice, there’s always something new to learn from each other. Enter the demi method, also known as micro-concealing, a technique that strategically uses product placement for skillful color correction. It may take some practice, but the results are worth the effort, and we’re here to explain how the demi method works.
What is the demi makeup method?
The demi makeup method, sometimes called micro-concealing, is a color correction method that makes it look like you’re wearing absolutely no makeup at all. The demi makeup method is all about strategically placing color in certain spots to balance and conceal instead of layering concealer, foundation, powder, and all the rest. It uses the color wheel to help brighten certain areas and darken others, essentially balancing the color palette of your face.
Well, you might be wondering who created this popular trend? Actually, the demi makeup method has been used by makeup artists for years, have you ever heard of makeup artists using green tones on zits before concealing to help reduce redness? That’s the basis of this method. However, makeup artist Cara Brook is often credited with popularizing it for the social media generation and giving it the “demi” name. The demi makeup method is for anyone and everyone who wants to make their skin look next-level flawless. It works well to brighten the dark under the eyes and to correct and cover imperfections.
How do you do demi makeup?
Think of it this way: no one is impervious to eye bags which means that under the eye is oftentimes much darker than your cheeks. The demi method leverages the principles of light and color theory and relies on a few essential tools and products. First, identify areas with discoloration, such as under-eye circles, blemishes, and so on. Most likely, some of the higher points of your face, like the cheekbones, are lighter so use a brown cream corrector to ever so slightly darken this area. Then, apply a little concealer onto the back of your hand for easy application. Use a small brush – or a sharp eyeshadow brush – to apply a bit of product to your undereyes and smile lines. Gently blend this outwards.
Primp Note: It may take some trial and error to figure out which shades work for you, so don’t get frustrated if you can’t whip up the perfect face right away — and give it a few trial runs before a big event.
Your face should already appear brighter and lifted. While you can stop there, you can adjust further with a cream-based color correction palette if there are more areas to tackle. For instance, the spot treats red rosacea or broken capillaries with a touch of green or neutralizes dark spots with yellow cream. Finally, you can lock in your look with a light sweeping of translucent powder or a setting spray. The results should leave you with an overall complexion that looks and feels more natural than a heavy foundation.
