TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR SIGNATURE FRAGRANCE

You are unique. You can search the whole world and not find another you. As the saying goes, “Be yourself; everyone else is taken.” Therefore, your fragrance should also be unique. A signature scent leaves an impression on people, so they remember you long after leaving the room.

So, how do you choose your signature fragrance? Keep reading to find out.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Scent

A signature fragrance is personal – it should reflect your individuality and make you feel confident. Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding which fragrance best represents you:

Advertisements

Scent families

Fragrances are generally grouped into families based on their predominant scent notes. Floral scents, for example, tend to be soft and feminine, while musky scents are more intense and masculine. Consider what kind of scent you generally prefer before narrowing down your options.

Longevity

You’ll want to choose a fragrance that has good longevity and lasts throughout the day without being too overwhelming. Eau de parfum typically has the longest-lasting scent, followed by eau de toilette.

Application

Fragrances can be applied directly to the skin or sprayed on clothing. If you choose to apply it directly to your skin, consider where you’ll be applying it – pulse points like the wrists and neck tend to work best.

How to Find the Right Scent For YOU

Consider your personality. Are you outgoing and bold, or are you an introvert that enjoys a low-key get-together with friends? Do you think of yourself as athletic and sporty, or prefer quiet activities such as reading or knitting? Do you enjoy being out in nature or being in a comfy chair in your living room playing video games? Is your ideal night out going to a nightclub or sitting around a fire?

Next, think about the types of fragrances that you typically enjoy.

Advertisements

Do you prefer light and airy scents or rich and heady ones? Fruity or floral? Spicy or woodsy? Once you’ve decided on the general type of scent you’re looking for, you can start exploring some of the most popular fragrance notes. Floral aromas often contain rose, jasmine, or tuberose notes, while fruity scents might include citrus, berries, or melon. Spicy scents typically feature notes of pepper, cardamom, or cloves, and woodsy scents often include cedarwood, sandalwood, or vetiver.

Don’t forget to take into account the season and weather. You’ll want to steer clear of anything too heavy or spicy if it’s hot, as these can be overwhelming in warm weather. Conversely, a light and airy scent might not be noticeable enough if it’s cold out.

How to Apply Perfume for Maximum Effect

When applying perfume, remember that less is more. Start with a small amount and add more if necessary. Apply it to pulse points such as your wrists, behind your ears, and in the crook of your elbow. These areas generate body heat, which will help to release the fragrance.

Avoid rubbing your wrists together after applying perfume, as this will break down the molecules and alter the scent. Finally, give your perfume a chance to settle before you make a final judgment – it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours for the full fragrance to develop depending on the scents.

The Best Fragrances for Men and Women

When it comes to fragrances, some are better suited for men, and others are better suited for women. This is often due to the different scents that men and women find appealing. For example, men prefer bolder, more intense smells, while women usually prefer lighter, more delicate aromas.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, and ultimately it is up to each individual to decide what smells best on them. After all, it’s important to find a scent that makes you feel confident and comfortable – something that feels like an extension of your style. After all, perfume is all about expressing your unique personality.

DISCOVER DOSSIER PERFUMES NEW WORLD OF FRAGRANCE ONLINE

Even before COVID-19 shuttered shops, online retail was replacing storefronts. Many people still wanted to feel the fabrics of their garments or take a few steps in their shoes before committing. Fragrances were another in-person must. Stopping to sample a new perfume and take it for a spin around the mall is a memory of a bye-gone era. Picking up a bottle of your favorite perfume duty-free is almost an act of self-care on a long layover. Dossier brings the best memories of discovering new perfumes to the ease of online retail.

What’s more, starting at $29 (less than one-third the price of their designer inspiration) Dossier perfumes are by far the more cost-effective choice.

Perfume, the essential of the morning routine!

Happy Friday! Can’t believe we’re almost done with 2022 already. We are hoping things slow down a bit so we can enjoy more of the year 2022!

Putting on fragrance is part of our morning routine. Even when we never left the house during quarantine. haha, we were super excited to try out Dossier fragrances. They are inspired by luxury designer scents but have a much more affordable price point.

We decided to try one inspired by Marc Jacobs’ Daisy, called FLORAL VIOLET. We still had some in a sample-size bottle of Daisy so we could compare the two. We put a spritz on each wrist. In the bottle, they smell different but once they dry on your skin, they smell identical.

It’s somehow both creamy and powdery at the same time, sweet without being too sweet, and simply gorgeous. This is perfect for any teenager; the scent isn’t too strong and isn’t too mature for the young ones. It’s a beautiful vanilla/violet that doesn’t overload the senses. It’s somehow both creamy and powdery at the same time, sweet without being too sweet, and simply gorgeous.

The other perfume we tried is the CITRUS GREEN APPLE, inspired by D&G’s Light Blue. We haven’t had it in a few years, but it smells exactly how we remember the D&G’s Light Blue in the bottle and on. This scent reminds you of summer in Italy or Spain all year long. The scent is fresh, airy, and sweet and you automatically smell the citrus. It is many people’s faves.

While we love to experiment with all thing’s beauty, we are secretly brand (and product) loyalists. We prefer to have one thing we love that does the work of the latest fifteen “innovative” products and is willing to invest in a quality purchase if it means I’ll reach for it every morning. This has been the case with the perfume we have used for the last 2 years — we won’t call it out by brand, but we will hint that it rhymes with one of our editor names. We love the scent, so much so that many of our friends can identify when we’ve been in a room or will soon approach by the trace of my perfume alone.

So, when we set out to test Dossier, the latest (and potentially greatest) DTC disruptor in the fragrance game, our standards were high. Our perfume is part of our identity, after all! Dossier’s model and prices are pretty groundbreaking. The brand crafts perfumes inspired by designer fragrances but sells them for a fraction of the cost, despite being entirely vegan, cruelty-free, and composed of the same high-quality ingredients. They’re even produced in Grasse, France, also known as the perfume capital of the world. By eliminating prestige pricing, advertising, and packaging, Dossier sells designer perfume blends (some of which ordinarily sell for over $100) in the range of $19 to $59.

The New Scentsation

Much like its business model, Dossier’s shopping experience is transparent. Each perfume is listed in tandem with its corresponding designer perfume, engineered to make your purchasing decision simple. Still, the add-to-cart journey is endless when all of the fragrances are inspired by cult favorites and luxury classics, like Le Labo’s Santal 33 or Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. We wanted them all!

Fortunately, Dossier offers a 100% risk-free ordering process. Each bottle comes with a small separate sample, so you can try the fragrance on your skin before deciding whether you want to keep the bottle or return it for a full refund. We decided to experiment with a few of the scents we were most intrigued by: Woody Sandalwood (inspired by Le Labo’s Santal 33); Aquatic Peony (inspired by Armani’s Acqua di Gioia); Oriental Oakmoss (inspired by Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle); and Floral Lavender (inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s Libre).

The Real Deal

Dossier first impressed us with its unboxing experience. Each pale pink box opened up to reveal a bottle and sample, along with a card describing the fragrance’s notes, original brand inspiration, percent concentration, and return process. I soon discovered that one of our favorite things about Dossier’s minimalist packaging is its sleek and uniform bottle design. The caps on the heavy glass bottles are magnetized, and each perfume has an identical bottle style — two features that make them look elegant (and organized) on any bathroom or bedside surface.

To measure the actual quality and efficacy of perfume, there are only two major questions that matter (to us at least). Does it smell fantastic? Does it last? Dossier immediately checked both of these boxes. We first tried Woody Sandalwood, the blend designed to imitate Le Labo’s iconic Santal 33. Not only did it smell exactly like its luxury counterpart, but our Dossier bottle lasted with a more natural tone than when we tried the Le Labo equivalent. While we sometimes feel that designer perfumes can sit a little heavy on the skin (and impart a harsh initial hour or two of scent), Dossier’s Woody Sandalwood delivered a gentle but powerful fragrance that lasted for hours.

Get The Scent (And Spare Your Cents)

Each Dossier perfume consistently exceeded our expectations. The scents are shockingly identical to their designer inspirations (and most even seem to last longer). But the definitive review comes from our partners, who are the only people around to notice our perfume in lockdown. When we first wore the Woody Sandalwood fragrance, they immediately asked if I had bought Le Labo’s Santal 33. As we tried each scent, they commented on the delightful fragrance floating through our homes.

The only thing better than a fragrance that inspires compliments costs less than half of its designer equivalent. We won’t be taking Dossier up on its risk-free purchase policy — instead, we will be buying a few more bottles as luxurious holiday gifts that won’t sabotage our budget.
