Say Yes to Winter SPF

Its no secret SPF is essential during the summer months. But did you know it’s equally important during the wintertime? Oh, what’s that? You work inside all day so you don’t need sunscreen? Not so fast; it’s important for you too!

UV rays are just as harmful during the winter as they are in the summertime… even if you spend your days working indoors, hidden from the sunshine. UVA rays penetrate window glass, which means you are exposed during your commute and if your office is filled with natural light. UV rays are especially harmful in snowy conditions since rays are strengthened due to the reflective nature of snow. The same goes for cloudy days. So lather up ladies!

All of these forms of exposure contribute to something called “photoaging.” Photoaging is a process of aging caused by UVA and UVB exposure. Major symptoms of photoaging include spider veins on the face or neck, loss of color and fullness in lips and wrinkle formations on the face, neck, ears, hands or chest. No thank you! (Note: You may want to think twice about those hands on the sunny steering wheel too because hands and necks show the symptoms of photoaging the most.) Since even the slightest bits of exposure add up quickly, it’s important to protect any uncovered skin with a broad spectrum UVA and UVB lotion with a minimum SPF of 15.

I use SPF 50 every morning (I use Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+). I apply it to my face, neck, and hands. If you’re looking for a quality SPF, I suggest buying something with one or more of the following ingredients:

  • B3: It aids in skin renewal and helps to improve your skins natural moisture barrier.
  • Lycopene: Helps improve your skin’s natural protection against ultraviolet radiation.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Restores water content, elasticity, and firmness to your skin.
  • Vitamin C: This antioxidant helps reduce the appearance of sun damage and increases skin’s moisture.
  • Katafray Bark: This ingredient is full of natural moisturizing properties.
  • Argan Oil: Repairs sun damage and keep skin looking radiant and smooth.

What’s your favorite SPF?

Vitamin 101| AWESOMELY Soothing Cucumber Face Mask

Every once in a while I just want a facial that feels good! One that will soothe my stress and makes my skin feel nice and plump! I have always LOOOVED cucumbers for skin since they add such a great cooling effect on the skin, but this facial is one that I have loved for sooo long! I haven’t actually done it in a long time, so I am doing it today! It feels great, adds hydration to tired skin and will also help heal your skin!

AWESOMELY SOOTHING CUCUMBER FACE MASK

Ingredients:
1 small cucumber slightly chilled
1 tablespoon honey

In a blender, slightly blend cucumber until a little chunky, don’t make it a liquid. Remove access liquid and add honey. Place on the skin and let sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Soap and Glory: Drugstore Product of the Week!

It’s true, I am OBSESSED with Soap & Glory, but for good reason! This body butter is definitely one of them! The Righteous Butter is such a creamy luxurious body cream, it’s almost hard to believe it’s a drugstore find! The beautiful texture, the girly but fruity smell, and the way it leaves your skin is, without doubt, a triple threat! I love putting this on when I get out of the shower, and I have been doing this for months now. I have dry skin, that’s actually kinda rough (SOOO embarrassing as a beauty blogger), and this has made my skin so soft, it’s unbelievable! It’s softer than a baby’s bottom now, lol. So I have to say, after a month of creamy-delicious-indulgence, I am literally addicted to this beautiful body butter!

For those of you who are not familiar with Soap and Glory, here’s a brief history on this brand.

Soap & Glory has been supporting the Clean of England since 2006, when they started formulating fun, fearlessly world-class products to give every girl THE BEST BANG FOR HER BEAUTY BUDGET.

Within weeks of the first launch, the word – and the gloss – on almost everybody’s lips was their (now iconic) super-plumping SEXY MOTHER PUCKER™. Soon after, our all-time, dry-skin classic – THE RIGHTEOUS BUTTER™ – was voted Britain’s Best Body Butter and our MAKE YOURSELF YOUTHFUL™ anti-aging peptide serum took The Times Beauty Awards Gold Star. The bar was set high. And every single Soap & Glory product that followed has been brilliant.

Was also featured on “How to Look Good Naked” reality tv show on 3/1/2008.

The texture to me is light but some may find it heavy, so make sure you apply this straight out of the shower, then pat dry after half an hour if you are going out! It’s not greasy, it does soak it, but just in case you over apply and get carried away!

The packaging of the Soap & Glory Righteous Butter is charming, pretty & fun. As with many of their products, it’s somewhat nostalgic & PINK!

One of my favorite things about The Righteous Butter is the Scent. It is amazing. Soap & Glory calls it their “original pink fragrance“. The fruity-floral signature fragrance is a blend of rose, bergamot, orange leaf, lemon, strawberry, gardenia, and jasmine. Some have compared it to Dior Miss Cherie perfume.

Bottom Line

If you are an all-natural gal, this may not be for you because it does contain parabens. If that doesn’t bother you, this body butter is worth a try! The company claims that a tub of this is sold every 20 seconds somewhere in the world. I can see why. It does what it claims to do – moisturizes extremely dry, dehydrated skin, it smells amazing and doesn’t cost a fortune! The Righteous Butter has become a staple in my bathroom and I will definitely continue using it.

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter
Available at Ulta Beauty ($15 for 10.1 oz), Sephora, Target ($14.99 for 10.01 oz)

This Ahhhhmazing Drugstore Scrub Will Smooth Your Skin Like You Won’t Believe!

I’ve been obsessed with Soap & Glory for a really really long time, their products always smell divine (a bomb fragrance is everything to me) and they use the most gorgeous ingredients. They have this scrub called, Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub, $15; it literally sloughs away every last bit of dead skin. Unlike some scrubs that can make your skin oily without really scrubbing, this one will actually exfoliate your skin and leave it crazy clean. It’s not super softening, but it’s one of my all-time faves because it just gets the job done; be sure to follow with a good moisturizer.

It’s an award-winning oat, shea butter and sugar body smoother with a great maple scent. The SMOOTHIE STAR™ BREAKFAST SCRUB features a super skin-smoothing blend of cupuacu bio scrubs, bananas, almond, and honey extracts to gently polish, smooth and moisturizes the skin.

I also love that it uses amazing natural ingredients like oats, honey, and bananas – I know, it sounds delicious, like some yummy maple syrup pudding. Oats are surprisingly good for your skin; they contain amino acids that can heal damaged skin and even target blemishes. Bananas and honey are also incredible natural ingredients that are loaded with good-for-your-skin vitamins and have anti-bacterial properties. With the added benefits of shea butter, almond oil, sea salt, and brown sugar, it’s basically a huge tub of food for your skin! I find with a scrub you need to use a good amount, or the exfoliation isn’t the same, and because this tub is huge, you can use a lot every time without having to worry about saving it (unlike when you have an expensive scrub, and you skimp, because you spent so much money on it)!

DIY Your Own Breakfast Scrub!

I love this scrub so much I’ve even recreated it myself. It’s a little bit messy, but it’s totally worth it.

For your face: Mash up half a ripe banana with a fork and combine it with two tablespoons of organic oats and about a teaspoon of honey. Combine the mix and then smother your face with it. I like to gently rub it onto my skin for exfoliation (over the sink, as the oats can fall off), and then I leave it on my face for around fifteen minutes.

For your body: Mash up one ripe banana, and combine with half a cup of brown sugar, half a cup of oatmeal, and two tablespoons of coconut oil. Jump in the shower, plaster your body with the scrub (I always go in sections, my arms, my body, my legs) and rub in circular motions – this usually takes me a good few minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water and pat your skin dry.
