3 Tips For Kissable Soft Lips This Winter

We all want our lips to be as smooth and soft as possible. The problem is all the heating in our homes and offices makes the air really dry, which plays havoc with our delicately balanced skin, hair, and lips. So, to keep your lips protected – chapped lips can be seriously painful – we’ve got three tips to make sure your pout stays as gorgeous as ever, even when it’s cold as fuck outside!

Fix your surroundings

Do what you can to make the air around you as hydrating as possible. Invest in, or dig out your humidifier – it will add moisture to the air, which will benefit your skin, lips, and hair as well. The heated vapor produced by humidifiers also kills 90% if the bacteria and spores in the air, so you’re less likely to catch an annoying cold. Found a humidifier on Amazon for $16.99, which also diffuses essential oils – bonus!

Prevent chapping

Stop your lips from chapping in the first place and always keep a lip balm to hand. Look for lip balms with lanolin in, a highly moisturizing natural ingredient that comes from sheep’s fleeces (it can hold 200% it’s weight in water!). And always ensure that you apply lip balm before bed, so your lips don’t go without added moisture all night. Drinking water before bed can help too!

Lanolips has to be my all-time favorite lip balm for combatting chapped lips, it’s super protecting, and one layer lasts all day. Another lip balm I’ve been obsessed with for years is Carmex; not only does it contain lanolin, but also beeswax, shea butter, and Aloe Vera, which work together to heal chapped lips and prevent future drying. It also costs less than $2!

DIY lip mask

I love using natural ingredients to heal my skin, and honey is one of me and my mom favorite ingredients because of its moisturizing, hydrating, and repairing properties. It’s also antibacterial, which means it’ll help to prevent any infection that can occur when your lips get dry. You can apply pure honey as a mask to your lips for 15 minutes, before gently wiping it (or licking it) away. You can also make a lip oil by combining a teaspoon of honey with a teaspoon of sweet almond oil; stir the mix well and store it in a small plastic container or lip tin so you can use it throughout the day.

HERSTORY

Janelle Mughannam is a Certified Fitness Trainer, food, and lifestyle Vlogger who is known on YouTube as Coco Janelle. She has earned more than 40,000 subscribers creating exercise videos, meal prep tips, and clothing hauls, amongst other vlogs.

Coco Janelle is a California-based brand ambassador, she has become popular on Instagram, earning upwards of 218,000 followers.

She is of Palestinian, Egyptian and Jordanian descent. She has one sister, Celine, and one brother, Farris. She is in business with her younger sister, Celine “Cece” who is also a Fitness and Fashion Influencer on Instagram.

I was given the opportunity to interview Janelle Mughannam, here’s what Janelle “Coco” had to say ….

What inspired you to create FITWSIS?

At first our account started as a fitness account that shares tips and secrets about fitness. Today we transformed it into a start-up business with clients from all over the world.  Our mission is to guide people towards a healthier lifestyle. Every body is unique; each with its own strengths and limitations. Our method is to motivate and inspire you in any way possible. Our aim is not only to transform your body, but to influence you in making more mindful decisions when it comes to your health. We believe in finding the pleasurable side of fitness, and while there may be a sore muscle or two along the way, the amount of fun and levels of energy you will experience will far exceed the discomfort.


What have you learned during this journey?

I learned to work harder and to manage my time. Running a start-up business by yourself is difficult. My sister and I do all the work ourselves and it definitely  taught us to not procrastinate and to be better every single day.


Define beauty in your own words?

Beauty is something we cannot see because its from within 🙂


What is it like working with your sister on fitwsis, that not only benefits you guys but it is also helping people to live a better and happy life?

We love it! I feel like it has also brought us closer:) Plus working with a sibling is easier because you can fight and argue about something and be fine 2 seconds later lol. We have similar minds so we are always bouncing ideas off of each other. We also have duties and individual jobs within our company which helps us stay on top on everything!


Of all the people in the fitness world, who would you love to collaborate with if given the opportunity?

Good question!!! My sister and I love @stef_fit. We see ourselves in her and we would love to work with her one day!


What advice can you give to young women who are interested in following your footsteps?

DO NOT RUSH. I feel like when I rush or push things they never work out as planned. If you want to start your own business there are alot of conditions you must accomplish first before diving head first. You need a plan, you need a targeted audience and you need an investment! Take your time to make sure everything you release is perfect and neat.


What aspect of this artistry excites you the most?

We love receiving messages and emails from girls who have seen results using our plans. That is probably the most satisfying thing about what we do. Seeing others happy, motivated, and inspired from FITWSIS is the icing on the cake. Thats when we know we made it!


What goals do you want to accomplish in your career and in life

Currently I am just trying to hustle as much as I can NOW so I can be great LATER.


Do you have any beauty routines and if so, what are they?

I have really sensitive skin so I take my time with my skin care routine though the day. I love taking myself to the spa or salon to get pampered every now and then 🙂 I think its important to take care of yourself, especially us girls


Do you have any upcoming events or plans we should watch out for?

I guess you’ll have to wait and see:)


What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership?

I feel its because not enough women are supporting women who are on the top. If we have more women out there inspiring and changing the world then us women who concur. The future is female 🙂

SPONTANEOUS!!I am always always up for new adventures and experiences.

I read that you are in College, what is your major?

I majored in Business Marketing and I have a concentration in Wine Studies. Yes wine:) I grew up in Sonoma County (near Napa which is the wine country of America).

The One Skin Care Product You’re Not Using That You Must: Pond’s Cold Cream!

Fashion and beauty experts often say, “What’s old is new again.” I see vintage looks from the 70’s, mixes of bold colors from the 80’s, and even bigger hair from the 90’s starting to return now.

In skin care, I’ve been reading a lot about the return of masques lately. But there is one sensational product I haven’t heard much about a revival, and that is cold cream.

While our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and those at the turn of the 19th-20th century raved about cold cream can do magic for your skin. It is an all-in-one cleanser, makeup remover, and moisturizer.

What Defines a Cold Cream?

Traditionally, a cold cream must be comprised of a few simple ingredients: olive or almond oil, beeswax and water (Journal of Chemical Education, 1944). However, as time passed, the most hydrating cold creams were found to also include occlusive agents to lock moisture in, such as petrolatum or mineral oil. Various ingredients were also added by different manufacturers to infuse a scent or for additional benefits, like antioxidants.

In addition, a “cold cream” must be cooling to meet the definition in a traditional sense. “Cold” is simply a reference to the cooling sensation it causes after being applied, believed to be due to the water content of the cream evaporating off the skin.

Benefits of a Cold Cream

  • Dry skin relief. Those who suffer from dry, flaky patches on the skin will find some relief from regular use of a cold cream.
  • Climate change relief. When the weather changes, the alterations in temperature and humidity can cause variations in the amount of moisture your skin needs. The beauty of a cold cream is that your skin tends to absorb the level of moisture it needs after a few minutes of application, and then the rest is then rinsed away.
  • Excellent for use with a retinoid or AHA. Cold creams can provide an extra level of hydration to aid the irritation associated with strong anti-aging treatments.
  • Cleanser. The oils dissolve all oil-based debris, and the water-based ingredients absorb the water-based products still on your face.
  • Makeup removal.
  • Moisturization. If you leave cold cream on your face, it can penetrate the skin well, leaving it soft and hydrated. Note: If you have oily skin, you may wish to use another cleanser afterwards, as the cold cream may leave your skin feeling a bit oily.
  • Cost and preservation. A cold cream is quite affordable for most persons, and it lasts for a long time.

Who Should Not Use a Cold Cream?

  • Those with oily, very oily, or acne-prone skin
  • Those living in hot, humid climates
  • Those with allergic reactions to oils

Isn’t Mineral Oil Terrible for the Skin?

Cosmetic-grade mineral oil does not generally clog the pores, as many are lead to believe. Cosmetic-grade mineral oil usually warrant only a 1 or 2 rating on a scale from 1-5, with 1 being the least pore-clogging, and 5 being highly pore-clogging.

However, cold cream is not a leave-on product. So using mineral oil in a cleanser gets you all of the hydrating and moisture-locking potential of mineral oil, without the possibility of it trapping comedogenic ingredients against your skin when rinsed properly.

While many drugstore cold creams will give the “cooling” sensation with ingredients that can be irritating or drying like mint or citrus extracts, Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser is simple. It hydrates the skin deeply with mineral oil, water, beeswax, montan wax, and cetyl alcohol, and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth after its application.

Bottom Line

If you are someone with a dry, normal/dry, or normal skin type who is looking for a product to boost the performance of their skin care regimen, I highly recommend adding in a cold cream. Popular in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, I have a feeling cold creams are going to make a comeback soon, with sensational cleansing, makeup removing, and hydrating properties! I highly recommen Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser.
