Physical activities π§ββοΈ
The first way you can make the best out of your menstrual phase is through physical activity. By that, I donβt necessarily mean an intense cardio workout, I mean more a physical activity like walking or yoga. Body movement is a wonderful way to soothe premenstrual symptoms. It notably improves blood circulation, regulates your mood, and calms painful cramps. Plus, I always feel like shit and bloated during my periods, and body movement helps with that.
Taking time off πΈ!
In general, your menstruation phase calls for relaxation. Itβs the moment your body asks for you to take it slow and rest. So, a second way you can make the best out of your menstrual phase is by taking some time off. I take my menstruation phase as an opportunity to rewind and make time for myself. Itβs my self-care moment of the month. This is when I usually paint or read a book on my very comfortable couch. Itβs not the best time for me to socialize or go partying, but I love having solo dates and just chilling at coffee places!
Hot infusions π«
The third way you can make the best out of your menstruation is through tea! Herbal infusions are another way you can relieve emotional and physical PMS symptoms. Here are some of my recommendations:
πΌChamomile to relieve cramps and reduce stress
π±Raspberry leaves to soothe cramps
πΈValerian to relieve cramps, soothe anxiety and help with sleep
π€Ginger to relieve back and stomach pain and soothe digestion

Food during your menstrual phaseπ₯
A healthy diet is an important aspect of everyoneβs life and for each phase of our cycle. Some of the general rules you can follow are to try to favor fruits, legumes, and vegetables, keep yourself hydrated, avoid eating transformed food in big quantities, and eat diverse sources of proteins. During your menstrual and luteal phase, you can opt for food rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin E such as bananas, sweet potatoes, raw spinach, or dried tomatoes. During that phase, I love to eat warm food that feels comforting and that doesnβt make me feel bloated. Iβve also read that caffeine can make your cramps worse, itβs something Iβve also noticed, so opt for herbal tea instead which has a lot of benefits.
S*xu*l activities π
Finally, one way you can make the best way out of your menstrual phase is through sexual activity. This is definitely personal and more of a preference, but I find that itβs a great way to soothe cramps, strengthen your relationship with yourself and your partner, and just feel good in general. This is of course something you should talk to your partner about ahead, keep an open mind and set boundaries if needed. You can also find comfortable ways to do it, like putting a towel on the bed or doing it in the shower. Itβs really up to you and your partner!

AmyΒ (2015)
Alexa, play βBack to Blackβ by Amy Winehouse. This deeply emotional film is a favorite celeb doc of mine, being made up of archival footage and personal testimonials that piece together the entire life story of the iconic and indescribably talented British singer/songwriter who lost her life to a drug overdose.Β

Although heartbreaking and hard to watch at times, Amy is powerfully executed and well-presented, offering audiences a tough but necessary outlook inside the life of one of the most celebrated artists even today. Mark Ronson, a long-time friend, and producer who worked with Winehouse find the documentary to be “respectful” to the late singer.
(Fair warning: Self-harm and substance abuse make big appearances in this doc.)
Legendary Misty Copeland became the first African-American woman to hold the position of principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, and this beautifully made documentary follows the remarkable journey to her groundbreaking achievement.Β
You donβt have to be a former dancer or current ballerina to enjoy this documentary on the greatest ballerina of all time: Misty Copeland. ThroughΒ A Ballerinaβs Tale, an IFC Film, Copeland proves that what people think ballerinas have to be (white, petite, rich, young) is racist, classist hogwash. Both inspirational and aspirational, this doc is for anyone looking for an ~against all odds~ heroine story.

Framing Britney Spears, produced by FX and Hulu and investigated byΒ The New York Times, explores the misogyny, cruelty, and ableism that led to the 39-year-old star being bound by this legal conservatorship, which many now believe should never have been implemented in the first place.
Even though the efforts to #FreeBritney finally paid off earlier last year (2022), this doc is still worth a watch. Through exclusive interviews and sharing of confidential evidence, the world gets a behind-the-scenes look at Britney Spearsβ fight for autonomy through the release of her conservatorship.Β
DisclosureΒ (2020)
This powerful documentary tackles a full history of transgender representation in Hollywood and serves as a wake-up call against stereotypes and images in the media that have harmed and misrepresented this community for so long. Trans actresses such as Laverne Cox, Rain Valdez, and more share their personal experiences to start this incredibly important but unfortunately neglected conversation.

In this heavy yet inspiring four-part YouTube docuseries, Demi Lovato, her loved ones, and her team recount her nearly fatal 2018 overdose. The incident left the superstar at a breaking point in her addiction and mental health that she had to tirelessly work and fight to overcome.

But ultimately, the series ends on a hopeful note with the finale, titled “rebirthing,” suggesting the pop star has finally found their footing.

Lady GagaΒ is more than just a powerhouse singer decked in a meat dressβsheβs a human with wants, anxiety, imposter syndrome, fibromyalgia, and talent. In this up-close-and-personal Netflix documentary, theΒ A Star Is BornΒ actress and the real-life pop star gets raw about the way societyβs view on femininity, sexuality, success, access, and ability has caused her pain. Β This Is ParisΒ (2020)
Paris Hilton is known as the OG influencer, but that doesnβt mean sheβs immune to having her image warped, then guzzled by gossip columnists and bored house moms alikeβin fact, just the opposite.
InΒ This Is Paris, the hotel heiress takes back the mic to give viewers a real, unfiltered look at her not-so-happy life, including her time at a program in Utah where she was abused. What starts as a story about just another rich blonde girl, evolves into something much more nuanced. Ultimately, the film challenges the societal expectations put on stars like Paris.
‘Pamela, a Love Story’ (2023)
After decades of turmoil, the ever-charming pop culture iconΒ Pamela AndersonΒ reflects on the gigantic turn her life took when her voice was taken away from her. The documentary directed byΒ Ryan WhiteΒ and produced by her sonΒ Brandon Thomas LeeΒ also includes never-seen-before footage as well as personal journal entries dating several years back.
Pamela, a Love StoryΒ is undoubtedly a crucial watch for those who are keen on getting an inside look at the actress and model’s life. It is honest, sweet, and human β and more importantly, Anderson’s story is finally told by the only person that should be telling it: herself. The touching documentary, which inspires viewers with Anderson’s bravery and positivism and reclaims her narrative after enduring years of ridicule and disrespect, will undoubtedly change many people’s perspectives on the unforgettableΒ BaywatchΒ icon.

Do you find yourself struggling to find the motivation to achieve your goals? Do you want to create the life of your dreams? Constructing a personalizedΒ vision boardΒ might be the answer to your problems.Β
WTF is a vision board?
A vision board is a collection of photos and text that can help you approach the future with hope. Instead of focusing on what habits you should be stopping, focus on the possibilities of the next year. βFrom a scientific perspective, vision boards do what we call βpriming,β which essentially is when exposure to a certain stimulus affects how you act towards whatever comes next,β saidΒ Elizabeth Mateer, a licensed mental health counselor associate. A vision board can also help you be specific about the goals you want to manifest. βA vision board is an opportunity to focus on the reality you want to create, a prediction of your possible future, and a connection to hope and a life that feels aligned,βΒ Elspeth Robertson, a registered clinical counselor and professional art therapist said.

There are two ways to create a vision board: digitally and physically. If you are someone who likes to do hands-on activities, you may want to create a physical vision board. However, if you are someone who prefers digital activities, you may want to create a digital vision board. The choice is yours.
If youβre not sure where to start, try looking for images that inspire you or reflect your goals. You can also use quotes or affirmations that resonate with you. Once you have a few items collected, start arranging them on a bulletin board or piece of poster board. Then add any additional details that will help bring your vision to life.

HOW TO CREATE A DIGITAL VISION BOARD
Step 1: Gather digital photos from any website of your choice. I find thatΒ PinterestΒ is one of the best platforms to utilize for vision boards.
Step 2: Decide where you would like to create the vision board. If you are unsure where to begin,Β CanvaΒ has great templates.
Step 3: Place and move your images around until you are satisfied with the final look.
Step 4: Make sure to save your final copy, and just like that, you are one step closer to achieving your goals.
Feel free to make your final creation yourΒ lock screenβthis way you will be looking at your goals daily.
HOW TO CREATE A PHYSICAL VISION BOARD
Step 1: Order aΒ vision board bookΒ or cut out images from your favorite magazine that pertain to your goals and dreams. Cut out images from magazines or print out pictures from the internet that represents you (skin color, hair, nationality, etc). If you need a suggestion,Β AmazonΒ has a wide selection of vision board books.
Step 2: Get a poster board, cork board, or some paper and play with the placing of the images until you are content with the look.
Step 3: Glue or tape your images to the board or paper.
Step 4: Decide whether you want to hang your vision board up, or if you want to put it somewhere else that is visible to you.
Now that you have your personalized vision board, go reach your goals.
BENEFITS OF CREATING A VISION BOARD
Now that we know how to create a vision board, letβs look at what neuroscientist Dr. Tara Swart has to say.
βThe science behind why itβs helpful is that weβre bombarded with so much information all the time,β she explains. βThere’s a natural process in the brain to selectively filter what’s important to our survival and selectively put attention on what’s important for us to thrive.β
Dr. Swart also mentionsΒ value tagging, which is an additional system in the brain that pieces together the information in order of importance. βThere is a logical element and an emotional element to that,β she adds.
βIf you create imagery that represents how you want your life to be, then youβre more likely to notice and grasp opportunities to make that a reality,β she emphasizes, βitβs priming your brain to remember whatβs important.β
Youβve heard it from a professional, so what are you waiting for? Go make a vision board!

What makes a successful vision board?
Itβs all about setting your intention. What do you want to manifest in your life? When you have a clear vision, itβs easier to select images that represent that goal. Creating a board that is both visually pleasing and spiritually in alignment will help you to stay focused on your goals.
A vision board is a tool that can help you clarify your goals and bring them into focus. It can also help you identify what steps you need to take to achieve your goals. By looking at your vision board regularly, you can keep your goals at the forefront of your mind and stay motivated to achieve them.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Oftentimes I would find myself setting goals for myself and forgetting about them. I had a picture-perfect life that I wanted to achieve, but I was not motivated to go and get it.
It was the summer of twenty twenty-two when I was offered the great advice of creating a vision board. This was something Iβve always wanted to do, but never got around to doing it. I started with a physical one and eventually decided to create a virtual one, so I could look at it each time I opened my phone.
I find that my vision boards motivate me to create the life that Iβve formed on paper. I continue to strive to achieve these goals, and it makes me feel good knowing I am one step closer to becoming the person I want to be.

CheapΒ date ideasΒ are a dime a dozen on the Internetβbut cheap date ideas that donβt feel cheap (or, you know, creepy)?
Those are a bit harder to find.
So we decided to pull together a few of our favorite affordable date ideas that donβt skimp on the romance and bring all the elements of a great date.
All these ideas are lovely on their own, but the best part? Most of them can be mixed and matched with other ideas on the list (e.g., picnic + stargazing) and still come in under $50.
Okay, this doesnβt scream βgroundbreakingβ at first, but hear us out. Picnics are very versatileβthey work for a variety of settings, occasions, and budgets. We love a classic wine and cheese spread.
GO STARGAZING.
Lay out a cozy blanket, pour some hot cocoa (or wine), and take in the beautiful night sky.
Bonus points for downloading a guided astronomy app, likeΒ this one, to help you ID the celestial bodies you see.

BUILD A PILLOW FORT + WATCH A MOVIE.
Watching a movie on the couch = is fine, average, just a regular night at home.
Watching a movie in a pillow fort = is nostalgic, has lots of ambiance, and shows that romance isnβt dead.
DESIGN YOUR TASTING.
You canβt go wrong with a DIY wine tasting, and the possibilities are endless. Of course, wine tastings arenβt the only option hereβbasically, anything you like to eat or drink could work.
For instance, one BLB has done this with veggie pizza. She picked up small veggies pizzas from a few local places, and then she and her date came up with a rating system and ranked them.
TAKE A CLASS TOGETHER.
Check out local resources to find in-person classes near you, or opt for a virtual class to do at home instead.
